Day 14 – Resting in SLC

Destination: Flying Saddle Resort, Alpine, WY (4 hours, 240 miles)

Today was a planned rest day and I think we hit it at a perfect time. Thanks to the time zone change Beckett slept past 5am for the first time on the trip. Everyone got a full 7-8 hours so we should be good for sleep for the rest of the trip ๐Ÿ˜‚

I had to work today, last work day of the trip! Jaclyn took the kids to Thanksgiving Point which was conveniently located right next to our hotel. They had all sorts of fun (not sure if the kids or Jaclyn had more fun). Thanksgiving Point is a mashup of things to do including a museum of ancient history (dinosaurs), gardens, farm country petting zoo and a butterfly biosphere. Brooke was really pumped that she got to hold a real life butterfly and ride a pony named Al (shout out Bop Bop!).

Around 3 in the afternoon I finished my work and reconnected with the rest of the family. We headed into SLC to meet Brandon for an early dinner. By sheer luck he was on training just north of SLC. We are at Slackwater Pizza (well, B&B didnโ€™t actually eat anything ๐Ÿ™„). I managed to get in trouble for drinking a beer while standing upโ€ฆthanks silly Mormon laws!

Originally we were going to spend the night in SLC but we decided it would be better if we drove while the kids were sleeping to shorten the drive on the next day. So we set off for the Flying Saddle Resort roughly 1 hour outside of the Tetons. About 2.5 hours away we locked in our reservation since both kids were asleep and it was going well. Approximately 30 minutes later both kids woke up and were not happy. We ended up doing the last 2 hours with them awake and unhappy and wayyyy past their bed time.

Luckily, the views were just absolutely amazing again. We criss-crossed back and forth between Wyoming and Idaho as we followed various mountain ranges. We managed to hit Afton, WY, at sunset which was pretty special. Afton is like a huge plain surrounded by amazing mountains. We finally made it to the resort (just barely) and went straight to bed. Another fun filled day!

I left the books in the car and was lazy so I used Chat GPT to generate a story about Brooke, princesses and unicorns.
