Day 25 – South Haven

Destination: South Haven, MI (4 hrs, 275 miles)

Our last stop! We avoided another near morning meltdown with the kids and left the hotel around 8:30. We thought the drive would take the majority of the day but made great time and only stopped once, just passed Chicago. We also hit the first real traffic/busy highways due to construction outside of Chicago…unfortunately, it’s likely I will traverse this section two more times when the rest of the family flies out of Chicago.

If you’re confused, we drove past Chicago to go to South Haven, MI to visit Jaclyn’s Uncle Ron and his wife Naomi. We’re then hoping to have Jaclyn and the kids fly out of Chicago to Boston. Originally, they were gonna fly to Manchester but SouthWest has jacked up their Chicago to Manchester flights :/

As we arrive in South Haven we killed about 30 mins driving around to let Beckett finish his nap (Brooke wasn’t too pumped). When Beckett woke up we pulled into the driveway and we’re greeted by Ron. We got the tour of their house and hung out with Ron for the afternoon. Brooke and Ron had met previously and so they were instantly playing together and as Brooke would say “he was being silly, but not as silly as he used to be”. 😆

Uncle Ron and Beckett watching trucks together!
Playing with blocks and the dice game, Tenzi!

Ron also made quick work of bonding with Beckett when Ron offered a fist bump to Brooke and then Beckett tried to fist bump Ron. Ron was great with the kids and you can see he really enjoys playing with them. Ron grilled up some steaks for dinner (pretty sure Brooke and Beckett each ate like a 14oz steak) and then we put the kids to bed.

Once the kids were asleep we all sat out on the deck and had a few drinks. It was relaxing to be outside for an evening while realizing we had made it to our last stop! We caught up with uncle Ron and shared stories about our family and Naomi’s family. Naomi is planning to arrive tomorrow.

  1. I love these photos! And how great that there’s construction (trucks) next door!
